Customer Energy Supplier Changes

Latest News

Customers, especially vulnerable customers, may be concerned about their energy company going out of business.

Here is some guidance.

  • Customers will still have gas and electricity if their supplier goes out of business.
  • The energy regulator, Ofgem, will arrange for customers to be transferred to another supplier.
  • If a supplier goes out of business, customers might have to wait a few weeks to find out who their new supplier is. They will contact affected customers to give them an update.
  • If a supplier has gone out of business, customers should:
  1. Take meter readings - it’s useful to take a photo of the meter readings too.
  2. Keep any old bills - these can help prove payment history, credit balance or debt.
  3. Make a note of the account balance – this is on the most recent account statement.
