How to do nothing

We are well into January, supposedly the most depressing month of the year. The joys of Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years Eve parties are replaced by debt, crash diets and bouts of flu. Suddenly even the cold weather isn’t a novelty anymore. There’s even been a name coined for one day of January where it all gets a bit too much - the aptly named Blue Monday.
But it doesn’t need to be this way... it really doesn’t. Sometimes simple things like going for a walk, starting a new activity and spending time with loved ones can help. Music can also be an incredibly useful tool to help wash away these blues. So log in to your Spotify, Sonos or YouTube account and get these ‘belters’ playing and show January what you’re made of.
Cheesy: no question. But this ‘banger’ from 1986 simply radiates with positivity. Make sure you listen to this loud and sing along to the lyrics - they’re brilliant. So sit back, crank up the volume and get lifted by this quintessential piece of 80s nostalgia.
This one will get you dancing round the office. One of the most well known songs by one of the greatest bands of all time will perk you up more than any black coffee ever could. Get those invoices sent off by being serenaded by Mick Jagger’s smooth voice. You’ll have the ‘moves like Jagger’ after listening to this.
A classic from the father of 1960s Motown. If this one doesn’t motivate you, we don’t know what will. It’s been used in multiple movies and TV ads - so we are sure you have come across this song before. Play this loud so the whole office can hear. You’ll all be singing along and having fun belting out the iconic chorus “Ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough, ain’t no river wide enough”. You get the picture.
It might not look it at the moment, but everyday is a beautiful day. It's hard to find anything more positive than this masterpiece from 2000. Just listen to the guitar chords from U2’s guitarist The Edge. By the time you have finished listening to this, you’ll be a ‘bona fide’ Air Guitar master. The perfect track if you are ever feeling down about the rubbish January weather.
Even in 2018, The Police are still cooler than most artists out today and Roxanne is probably their most well known track and for good reason: it's incredibly catchy. The chorus is dead simple to memorise. All you have to do is simply repeat ‘Roxanne’ over and over again. It’s easy listening and great for your office, home or wherever you are working.
Now to something more current. Pharrell Williams's hit from 2013 became an international sensation. Why? Because it is incredibly affirmative and gets a lot of people dancing. Nothing says I am ready for whatever the year throws at me than saying ‘Because I’m Happy’. We are sure that you’ll feel a little bit happier after listening to this brilliant song.
